SANBI will be hosting Dr Joshua Levy from Scripps Research in California, USA for a seminar on Wastewater Sequencing for Genomic Surveillance. The seminar will take place at 10-11am in the SANBI seminar rooms, 5th floor Life Science Building, University of the Western Cape. Coffee and biscuits will be served afterwards.
Dr Levy (from Prof Kristian Andersen’s lab at Scripps) is an expert on bioinformatic analysis of mixed-population viral samples and the author of the Freya software, which is widely used to quantify relative abundance of SARS-CoV-2 lineages from wastewater samples (including by the NICD in South Africa). With environmental sampling from wastewater sources playing an increasingly important role in public health pathogen genomics, we expect that many of you will enjoy the insights provided by this seminar.
For those who missed it, the slides from the lecture can be found here.
