On 6 December 2018 Prof Junaid Gamieldien attended the product launch of the UniQ Typer™ Y10 Genotyping Kit Product developed by Prof Eugenia D’amato at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa in partnership with Inqaba Biotec. Gamieldien was as present as the team-lead for development of UniQTyper Reference Database (http://ystr.sanbi.ac.za/), which was co-developed with SANBI member, Hocine Bendou. The database is a critical component of the product as it provides statistical support for forensic, population and genealogical studies and host profiles generated with the Y-STR markers. The search facility enables evaluating frequencies of profiles according to metapopulation, ethno-linguistic group, and country.
